Tracey is basically a superwoman. She is a single mom and entrepreneur. She has two beautiful kids that are some of the best humans. I met Tracey at a local Benefits shop in my town and she did my eyebrows. As we talked I realized there was something about her that was different—it was definitely her joy.

Here are some questions I got to ask her:

What is giving you joy right now?

I can say it’s easy to have joy from big things like promotions, money and homes. But my constant joy comes from small things....like waking up before the kids and enjoying a cup of coffee on the couch (in silence) going for a walk and listening to a podcast, having peace in my spirit, cooking a delicious meal. With the pandemic being on everyone’s mind at the moment, I try to grasp on to anything that makes me smile.

How did you end up where you are now in the endeavor you are pursuing?

I had always worked in a doctors office for years. Although I loved helping people I knew I was destined something more. I was laid off from my job unexpectedly and was absolutely devastated. My son and I had to move back home with my Mom. I decided to go to Cosmetology School and obtained a job working for Benefit Cosmetics for the last 7 years. I always had a love for health and wellness so during the lockdown I decided to pursue a Fitness Trainer and Sports Nutrition Certification. Now not only do I make people beautiful on the outside and can help you feel beautiful from the inside out. That to me is joy!

What would you tell your teenage self about joy?

I would say “ Tracey....you do not get your joy from what others think about you. You have joy in your heart already you just have to nurture it”

What would you say to someone who is looking for joy in their everyday life?

To start thinking from a place of what I do have instead of what I don’t have. Start giving thanks to God for waking you up everyday. Write in a gratitude journal everyday about something as small as Starbucks not messing up your coffee order today. Start small and work your way up.

What does “Joy is a Revolution” mean to you?

A revolution is when several people believe in something and spread that good word to others so they can embrace that thought as well. That’s what it means to me. Spreading the word of pure joy to others so they can embrace their own joy in life.

What have you learned about joy during the time of covid?

That I cannot control many things at all....the only thing I can control are my reactions and actions towards certain things. I can choose to laugh or cry. I choose to look on the bright side.

Who benefits from Joy?

Absolutely everyone!!! But the main person who benefits is you as an individual.

What led you to find your joy?

Being so fed up with not being happy. I just woke up one day and said to myself “ I’m so sick and tired of being sick and tired. Today marks a new start for me” I have not so joyful days sometimes but 90% of the time I’m always smiling.
